Excessive underarm sweating, known medically as primary axillary hyperhidrosis, can affect clothes, confidence and daily life. If antiperspirants have not controlled it, underarm Botox is a non-surgical option. At Estheticare Dubai, our doctors use botulinum toxin to temporarily reduce the sweat produced by the underarm glands. This page explains how the treatment works, who it suits, what to expect and how to prepare. For prices, see our underarm Botox cost in Dubai page.

What Is Underarm Botox?
Underarm Botox uses small injections of botulinum toxin type A into the skin of the underarm. Instead of relaxing facial muscles, it is used here to calm the sweat glands.
It does not stop your body from regulating temperature. Sweating elsewhere on the body continues as normal.
How Does Botox Reduce Sweating?
Sweat glands are switched on by a chemical messenger called acetylcholine, released from nearby nerve endings. Botox blocks this release in the treated area, so the glands receive fewer signals and produce less sweat. The effect is temporary, and sweating gradually returns as the nerve endings recover, which is why treatment is repeated.
Unlike antiperspirants, which act on the skin surface, Botox works on the nerve signal to the glands.
Is Your Sweating Excessive?
Sweating is normal, but you may have hyperhidrosis if sweating:
- Soaks through clothes even when you are not hot or exercising.
- Happens regularly and affects work, relationships or confidence.
- Has not improved with antiperspirants.
Primary hyperhidrosis often runs in families. Sweating that starts suddenly, or comes with weight loss, night sweats, palpitations or fever, can have another cause, so tell your doctor. We may recommend a medical check before treatment.
For a wider look at the condition, including hands, feet and other treatment options, see our hyperhidrosis treatment page.
Underarm Botox Compared with Other Options
| Option | How it works | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Antiperspirants | Block sweat at the skin surface | Usually the first step; some people need stronger prescription products. |
| Botox | Blocks the nerve signal to sweat glands | Temporary; repeated every few months. |
| Other medical options | Tablets, devices or surgery | Your doctor can discuss these if Botox is not suitable. |
Who Is a Good Candidate?
You may be suitable if you:
- Have excessive underarm sweating that affects daily life.
- Are 18 or older and in good general health.
- Have not had enough control from antiperspirants.
- Have realistic expectations. Botox reduces sweating; it does not remove it completely.
Who Should Avoid Botox?
Botox may not be suitable if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Have an active skin infection in the underarm area.
- Have a known allergy to botulinum toxin products.
- Have a neuromuscular disorder such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
Your doctor will review your medical history first.
The Underarm Botox Procedure
- Consultation: your doctor reviews your symptoms, medical history and goals.
- Sweat mapping (if needed): a starch-iodine test can show which areas sweat the most. [Confirm if offered.]
- Preparation: the underarm is cleansed, and numbing cream may be applied. [Confirm.]
- Injections: many tiny injections are placed evenly just under the skin of each underarm, using a very fine needle. Most patients feel brief pinches.
- Finish: the visit usually takes about 15–30 minutes, and you can usually return to normal activities the same day.
Aftercare
- Do not rub or massage the treated area.
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot baths and heavy exercise for the first 24 hours.
- Ask your doctor when you can use deodorant or antiperspirant again.
- Mild redness, small marks or tenderness usually settle quickly.
Results and How Long They Last
| Time after treatment | What to expect |
|---|---|
| 3–7 days | Sweating starts to reduce. |
| About 2 weeks | Full effect is visible. |
| 4–6 months | Sweating gradually returns. Many people repeat treatment in this period. |
Duration depends on your sweating severity, the dose, the brand used and how your body responds. Results vary from person to person.
Risks and Side Effects
Underarm Botox is well established and generally well tolerated when given by a qualified doctor. Possible temporary side effects include:
- Mild redness, swelling or bruising.
- Tenderness at the injection sites.
- Temporary headache.
- Some people notice more sweating in other parts of the body.
- Rarely, temporary weakness of nearby muscles.
Contact a doctor immediately if you have difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking, or signs of a severe allergic reaction.
